American bass Anthony Reed joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera for their 2024/2025 Season after making his French debut as Masetto, Don Giovanni at Opéra de Rouen Normandie. The season prior he was seen at the Royal Opera House as Collatinus, The Rape of Lucretia in a Britten Pears Arts production inaugurated at Snape Maltings. Opera News praised him saying “… his centered voice and earnest interpretation made his European debut in this production memorable,” while the Guardian called his voice “darkly sonorous.” He recently made three role debuts. Figaro in New Orleans Opera’s Le nozze di Figaro, Raimondo in Pensacola Opera’s Lucia di Lammermoor, and Tchélio in Des Moines Metro Opera’s The Love for Three Oranges.
Trained at the San Francisco Opera in the prestigious Adler Fellowship Program and the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Ryan Opera Center, with a Masters in Music from the elite Curtis Institute of Music, Anthony has amassed an impressive amount of experience. Having worked with world class conductors, teachers, coaches, and directors he has crafted a wide array of tools for technical improvement. In addition to opera, he writes and records pop music with various producers and understands the basics of vocal recording techniques, and songwriting skills.
