Alaskan born saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Cooper White was inspired to play music by the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, At the Lionel Hampton School of Music he won the Outstanding Jazz Soloist Award, which led to a partial scholarship at the Berklee College of Music.
Following Berklee he began performing on most of the major cruise lines, yachts and land tours, visiting 70 countries and all 7 continents. He toured the entire United States opening up for various reggae acts, including Groundation, Pato Banton, The Expendables, and The Eagles of Death Metal. He co-created the band Samsaya Trio from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where they created unique arrangements of well-known songs. Samsaya Trio performed repeatedly on The World megayacht as well as cruise ships.
After Samsaya Trio, Cooper landed a role in Los Angeles’ For The Record: The Brat Pack as a saxophonist and cast member. After that he performed in Broadway’s Harlem Renaissance hit After Midnight on alto, tenor, baritone sax and clarinet.
Cooper then wrote and performed his cabaret show entitled Public Saxophone and Other Bedtime Stories where he mixed his saxophone and multi-instrumentalist abilities with comedy and storytelling. He performed weekly on the Norwegian Escape cruise ship and regularly received a standing ovation.
During the pandemic, Cooper started teaching music online and was voted 2023 and 2024 Saxophone Teacher of the Year. Cooper’s teaching philosophy is to cater to the needs of the individual student. He strives to not only teach pedagogy and technique, but also to teach artistry and expression. The point of music is to enjoy and express, and Cooper strives to help students reach their goals.
Cooper also completed a masters degree from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England in Sustainable Development. His final study examined the relationship between music and sustainability via musicology, and stressed the importance of music and culture in human society.
Cooper has worked as a freelance saxophonist and studio musician with many artists, including The Disco Fries and Five Corners. As a writer he wrote shows for Nathan Chester (finalist in The Voice 2024), and Elias Hendricks (finalist in Britain’s Got Talent). He also wrote a show of Whitney Houston’s transcribed live concerts, which he was able to perform with Nicole Vanessa Ortiz in New York City venues such as 54 Below and Theater 555.
He designed a new one-man show that involved live looping using 6 instruments, mixing jazz, pop, electronic music and hip-hop performed at Blue Kay Eco Hotel in Mahahual, Mexico and on a European tour in 2024.
